About the Artist
Magic and craft are the two permanent wings of art. ~Pablo Neruda
The primary influences in my work as an artist come from the western European tradition of art, from the teachings and practice of Tibetan Buddhism and Asian philosophy in general, and from the boundless well of global artisitic expression. The European tradition gives me the discipline, the yoga of perception and gesture in drawing and painting. The Buddhist teachings offer a path to work with mind, vision and perception: change the mind and the world changes shape. The artistic traditions of the world are an ancestral continuum, a cauldron, inspiring and nourishing.
All my life I have been learning to see, to open octaves of vision. I gaze into the radiant heart of phenomena, hearkening to the pulse of dark and light, stasis and change, becoming and dissolving, sensing the beat that becomes a pattern, the pattern that becomes a form, the form that becomes an image. I seek the shimmering pathway between perceiving and sensing, between phenomena and noumena, between iconic and narrative. I venture into the unborn world, holding a thread of longing to guide my path, winding it into images as I go. I am calling to the invisible world to reveal itself, to tell its stories, to unfold the wisdom and luminosity encoded in its heart.
