I CHING: Discovering THE TRIGRAMS

I Ching, the Book of Changes, is an incomparable source of wisdom and oracular guidance. An understanding of the eight trigrams - the basic elements of the I Ching –- is essential for entering into The spirit of the Book. In this course, we will focus on the images, attributes, and qualities of the trigrams, and how their dynamics manifest in the 64 hexagrams. This course is suitable for beginners, as well as those experienced with the I Ching who want to deepen their understanding.

The course includes:

• The eight trigrams, their images, attributes, and qualities.
• The trigrams in the context of the hexagrams.
• Methods for consulting the I ching and approaches to interpretation.

When: Five Wednesdays evenings, 7-9, beginning February 2, 2011
Where: TBA (upon registration)
Cost: $175 to reserve a place in the class by January 28, 2011

Laura Marshall is a student of the imagination: she is a visual artist, a PhD candidate in Mythological Studies at the Pacifica Graduate Institute, and teacher of World Art at Naropa University. She has been a student of the I Ching for over thirty years, including studies with with Howard Bad Hand and Stephen Karcher. She has taught classes in the I Ching in the U.S. and Europe.
